All signs indicate that the 27 year old, energetic, philanthropist Stuart Crooks, has a very promising future in civil engineering, his chosen profession and an even more stellar one in leadership. Characterized by a lifelong interest in community development and the advancement of citizens’ welfare, he has involved himself in various programmes and activities towards this end.

In his continued desire to give back to society, Stuart with a small team, has launched SmartTerm Learning Management System. This is a cohesive web and mobile learning management system that connects administration, teachers, students and parents with a seamless integrated education experience. This platform is an opportunity to take the rich and rigorous education that is provided in schools across the Caribbean and enhance it with the latest technological advancements. After spending time in the United States and seeing the different tools that aid in education, Stuart was determined to see these systems in the Caribbean.

He is also a Founding Member and Executive Vice-President on the Board of Directors of the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia Caribbean Students’ Association (DMV CSA Inc.). This organization was founded in 2011 as a medium of interaction between Caribbean students throughout the DMV region and acts as a governing body for Caribbean students who need help to tackle issues that deals with cultural, educational and professional development. It is intended to be the parent organization for over fifteen Caribbean Students Associations within the tri-state area.  The DMV CSA Inc. hosts events which include one annual social event in the Fall and the annual Conference in the Spring. Both events bring about unity and development for all Caribbean students within the community. The idea of bridging the gap between Caribbean students was an initiative heavily pushed by Stuart’s Executive Board during his reign as the Executive President of the Howard University's Caribbean Students' Association (2011-2012). 

His leadership influence has been felt in the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE-NCS of which he has been a member for 7 years. He is currently coordinator of the Monthly Section Meetings and member of the Centennial Committee and was a former Vice President of Howard University’s American Society of Civil Engineers (HU-ASCE) student chapter during his junior and senior years of college. He is an active member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, former member of the Howard University’s National Society of Black Engineers, HU-ASCE Steel Bridge Team, and Engineers Without Borders. In addition, during his sophomore and junior years, Stuart served as Retention Chair of the Howard University College of Engineering Architecture and Computer Science Student Council.  In his Senior Year, he was Executive President of Howard University Caribbean Students Association. In his Junior and Senior years he was the coordinator for the Howard University Ambassadors of Engineering Volunteering Program. This program offered Howard University undergraduate and graduate engineering students the opportunity to partake in outreach to K-12th grade students with the general knowledge of tsunami awareness. Stuart, organized a team to simulate a mini tsunami at the Annual National Engineering Week family day. He made the Howard University Deans List in 2009 and was awarded Cook Hall Honors in 2008-2009. 

During the summer of 2011, Stuart was awarded the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowships Summer Exchange Program, where he participated in research at the University of Rhode Island and Cornell University. During that time he conducted research and developed a system for health monitoring of buried concrete pipelines. He also researched offshore wind turbine foundations and developed improved design methods.

In Stuart’s four years of experience in the field of transportation engineering, he has focused on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and traffic operations. He is a key member of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Traffic Signal Optimization project which was awarded the distinguished American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) “Outstanding Project” Award. He has become familiar with the District’s traffic system, signal timing modification process, traffic patterns and pedestrian activities. Stuart’s experience includes traffic signal timing, traffic signal design, communication design, roadway signing and pavement marking design and roadway lighting design. He is versed in Synchro, VISSIM, GuidSIGN, AGi32 and Microstation software.
