Sherine Powerful is a dedicated daughter of the Caribbean sand, sun, and sea. Born in Jamaica and raised in the Bronx, she is a cultural ambassador and aspiring entrepreneur who is unapologetic about centering the Caribbean in her life and work.

Her “All Caribbean Everything” approach has enabled her to foster meaningful relationships and produce impactful work in Caribbean communities.

As a public health practitioner, she has worked with numerous domestic and global non-profit Caribbean-focused organizations, including: SocaMotion, caribBEING, Caribbean Women’s Health Association, Population Services International Caribbean, UNFPA Guyana, and Antillean Media Group.

Sherine immerses herself into Caribbean life wherever she goes. She currently serves as an informal mentor to the Caribbean Students’ Organization at Yale University.

Additionally, Sherine recently accepted an invitation to join the Yale Alumni Schools Committee and serves as an interviewer for applicants from the Caribbean region.

Sherine also rejoined Yale’s Pan, Jam, and Lime Steelband, playing the double guitar steelpans and serving as a staff advisor. Her current passion projects, “The Caribbean Public Health Network” and “The Caribbeanista”, are the most recent manifestations of her dedication to Caribbean communities and her Diasporic/Pan-Caribbean identity.

The Caribbean Public Health Network strengthens connections between the Caribbean and its Diaspora for social good by supporting Caribbean people passionate about and working to improve Caribbean public health. The Caribbeanista is a blog and developing brand/business that provides space for reflections on different aspects of Caribbean identity and culture as well as insight into Sherine’s endeavor to become a Caribbeanist.
