Sadé Clacken Joseph was born in the Bronx, New York to Jamaican and Antiguan parents. She began making short films and writing songs on piano in high school, and fell in love with telling stories ever since. After graduating with a degree in Anthropology from Columbia University in 2011, she joined the production team for the ABC Daytime Television show the The View. Over four years she developed her skills as an executive assistant, production assistant and associate producer on the show before deciding to attend the University of Southern California's prestigious MFA program in Film Production. In addition, she is a freelance videographer, producer, editor, photographer and music composer.

Sadé is dedicated to giving others, particularly people of color and women, the opportunity to tell their own stories and showcase themselves as they see themselves through her work. Her debut documentary film Tumaini: Hope delved into the lives of schoolgirls and the case of women’s education in rural areas of Kenya and Uganda.  Her documentary web-series Run Carlos Run, an epic real-time cross-country adventure and quest to uncover the “American Dream” with award-winning filmmaker and marathon runner Carlos Ibarra has been screened at universities across the country. Her current documentary project Masafer Yatta takes an intimate look into a group of shepherding communities in the South Hebron Hills of Palestine, who reside in caves and tents, and continue to exist and resist in the face of an ongoing threat of eviction and displacement. At USC, she has continued to display her passion through fiction story-telling, writing and directing three short films in her first year: What to Expect,Superman Sam and her proudest work Good Girl a dramedy about a Afro-Caribbean American girl trying to navigate where she belongs in high school.
