Kareem has been involved in creating scholarships at the primary school level in Jamaica. He annually awards small scholarships to Boston Primary and Infant School in Jamaica. He also was involved in establishing the Passport to college non-profit organisation here in the USA. He spent two years as the president of this organization that identified financially underprivileged students in the Caribbean and mentored several of them into gaining access into undergraduate institutions, such as Claflin University in the USA.

Kareem has gone on to pursuing a graduate education in the biomedical sciences and has published papers in established journals, such as the journal of Pharmacology. He is currently developing novel strategies to fight cancer. He remains involved in the Caribbean community in Charleston, South Carolina and has volunteered in several community outreach and several cultural events, such as the Charleston Carifest. His efforts have even been recognised by the federal government; in 2015 he earned the national award of being a White House HBCU Allstar.
